Roget’s II: The New Thesaurus, 3rd ed. 1995.  Containing 35,000 synonyms in an easy-to-use format, this thesaurus features succinct word definitions.
Roget’s International Thesaurus of English Words and Phrases 1922 Mawson’s modernization of Roget’s classic structure with over 85,000 hyper linked cross-references and 2,900 quotations.
AGRI/AGRISANASTO - Search Form
This thesaurus from the Agricultural Library at the University of Helsinki is a "tool for selecting terms for information retrieval and indexing documents related to agriculture, food, nutrition, household sciences, consumer research, rural development and environmental sciences." Terms are in Finnish and English, but Latin terms are also given for plants and plant diseases.

This online thesaurus provides alternate names and "substitutions for thousands of cooking ingredients, including low-calorie and low-fat alternatives for dieters, inexpensive substitutes for gourmets on a budget, and innovative replacements for hard-to-find ethnic ingredients." Search the thesaurus or browse by category.
The Data Archive HASSET
HASSET is the Humanities and Social Science Electronic Thesaurus. The thesaurus can be used to find terms for searching the Data Archives online data catalogue, which contains "the largest collection of accessible computer-readable data in the social sciences and humanities in the United Kingdom."
Florida Environments Online Thesaurus
Find relationships between environmental and biological terms using this online thesaurus. From the main index, click on a letter to view an alphabetized list of hyper linked descriptors. Clicking on a specific term results in a listing of broader, narrower, and/or related words.
The Getty Information Institute: Vocabularies
Three thesauri -- "The Art & Architecture Thesaurus," "The Union List of Artist Names," and "The Getty Thesaurus of Geographic Names" --(plus a guide their use) are available to you here. There are optional ways to find what you are looking for in each of these large vocabulary resources.

INFOTERRA
"INFOTERRA is the global environmental information exchange network of the United Nations Environment Programme." The online thesaurus enables the user to use the INFOTERRA database more effectively. Search the thesaurus by entering keywords or phrases, or browse the alphabetical listing of terms.
Library of Congress Thesauri Home Page
The Library of Congress maintains four online thesauri. The "Thesaurus for Graphic Materials 1: Subject Terms" contains over 6000 terms designed to aid the indexing of visual materials. The similar "Thesaurus for Graphic Materials 2: Genre and Physical Characteristic Terms" contains over 600 terms. Legislative analysts assign index terms to each congressional bill using the "Legislative Indexing Vocabulary Thesaurus". The "Global Legal Information Network (GLIN) Thesaurus" is used to index legislation from around the world. All of these thesauri may be browsed alphabetically by term or searched by keyword.
mda Archaelogical Objects Thesaurus
Browse this thesaurus of archaelogical objects by clicking on a class description or using the alphbetical list or "Index of Terms." Term results give an item description and any broader, narrower, or related terms in the hieracrchy. There are over 2000 terms in the database which covers primarily British and Irish materials.
NASA Thesaurus
Click on an index letter to begin your search. This type of thesaurus can be a little confusing for the beginner (a search on "abdomen" gives terms from "anatomy" to "viscera"). Just think of the thesaurus as a tree: the broader terms are larger categories that sit on a branch above the term you want, and the related terms sit on branches on the same level (they're the ones you want; more-or-less synonyms of the term you selected).

Search this "general-purpose" thesaurus based on Roget's Thesaurus and the Oxford Thesaurus. This online thesaurus is only available to students, faculty, etc. of OhioLINK member institutions.

Seattle City Clerk Thesaurus
"This thesaurus provides a language for indexing and retrieving legislation and other records in the [Seattle] City Clerk's Office." Search by keyword, or browse categorically by subject. The major subjects within the thesaurus include public works, transportation, housing, and geographical terms.
SOSIG Thesaurus
The Social Sciences Information Gateway (SOSIG) can aid in locating "high quality sites on the Internet, which are relevant to social science education and research." The SOSIG Thesaurus was developed to "provide alternative terms that will generate hits in the SOSIG Internet Catalogue." The SOSIG Thesaurus is derived from the HASSET Thesaurus.
