related to agriculture, food, nutrition, household sciences, consumer

are in Finnish and English, but Latin terms are also given for plants

HASSET is the Humanities
and Social Science Electronic Thesaurus. The thesaurus can be used to
find terms for searching the Data Archives online data catalogue,
which contains "the largest collection of accessible
computer-readable data in the social sciences and humanities in the
United Kingdom."

"INFOTERRA is the
global environmental information exchange network of the United
Nations Environment Programme." The online thesaurus enables the
user to use the INFOTERRA database more effectively. Search the

Library
of Congress Thesauri Home Page
The Library of Congress
maintains four online thesauri. The "Thesaurus for Graphic
Materials 1: Subject Terms" contains over 6000 terms designed to
aid the indexing of visual materials. The similar "Thesaurus for
Graphic Materials 2: Genre and Physical Characteristic Terms"
contains over 600 terms. Legislative analysts assign index terms to
each congressional bill using the "Legislative Indexing
Vocabulary Thesaurus". The "Global Legal Information Network
(GLIN) Thesaurus" is used to index legislation from around the
world. All of these thesauri may be browsed alphabetically by term or
searched by keyword.

alphbetical list or "Index of Terms." Term results give an
item description and any broader, narrower, or related terms in the
hieracrchy. There are over 2000 terms in the database which covers
primarily British and Irish materials.

begin your search. This type of thesaurus can be a little confusing
for the beginner (a search on "abdomen" gives terms from
"anatomy" to "viscera"). Just think of the
thesaurus as a tree: the broader terms are larger categories that sit
on a branch above the term you want, and the related terms sit on
branches on the same level (they're the ones you want; more-or-less
synonyms of the term you selected).

The Social Sciences
Information Gateway (SOSIG) can aid in locating "high quality
sites on the Internet, which are relevant to social science education
and research." The SOSIG Thesaurus was developed to "provide
alternative terms that will generate hits in the SOSIG Internet
Catalogue." The SOSIG Thesaurus is derived from the HASSET
Thesaurus.
